Tegretol and mental health

Tue, 01/17/2017 - 13:46
Hello, I am 34 , i had epilepsy as a child and was wondering if there are any long term effects of tegretol on mental health! I had my first seizure at age of 3 and tegretol was prescribed, started with 50 mg and gradually increased to 200 mg. At age 13 i stopped medication at 150 mg without consulting mu neuro as my family was going through troubles after my father passed away! My last seizure that i remember was at age 11. All through my childhood, i remember experiencing drowsness, slow reflexes and struggled with my academics, but generally until that point i remember being s happy child otherwise. After i stopped medication i started doing well academically but i struggled with self esteem issues. I am not sure if i had any depressesion as a teenager but i always had social awkwardness and anxiety. I was formally diagnosed with depression 7 years back and put on meds - citalopram but stopped medicate after 6 months after gyn advised me to. I am still struggling with depression and anxiety and i am curious if my stopping tegretol abruptly caused any issues?
