Teenager with JME epilepsy

Wed, 12/02/2015 - 21:30

Hello, everyone!

I wanted to start this post to see if anyone has experience a similar situation. My sister was diagnosed with jme epilepsy last December. In October she started experiencing these weird symptoms. She's been twitching throughout the night, and then wakes up with numb legs and arms. She also says she feels weird and seems confused. She says her head feels tingly sometimes. Usually she goes back to sleep and wake up fine. We've taken her to the ER where they've done an overnight EEG and said everything is normal. This has been going on for more than a month and we still have no answers. She was on levetiracetam but is now levetiracetam ER. There's no improvement though. She was taking levetiracetam (mfr: Solco healthcare) when this problem started. Then switched to levetiracetam ER (mtf:Lupin). Today we switched her to levetiracetam ER (mfr: APOTEX) hoping it will show some improvement. It's been a really hard month and I don't know what else to do if this doesn't work.

Thank you all in advance!

I have used keppra for years.

I have used keppra for years. I was having a few more seizures then I had been having and I thought it was the generic I was using since it was a new maker. I set up an appointment with Doc and after checking my information he checked something. It was not the generic keppra. I had been in a drug study and had been one of the people taking the drug rather then the placebo. We then added vimpat to my keppra and now things are fine and even a bit better. You do need to take to her neurologist about this issue. A dosage change or coupling another medication. Her neurologist will know more about different meds or procedures.. I hope she gets the assistance she needs Joe
