Switching from Depakote to Topamax

Sun, 06/28/2015 - 01:04

I am in an Army Afghanistan Vet who was diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury in 2012. In 2014, I started having grand mall seizures, as many as 13 in a day. An EEG indicated left temporal lobe damage. My Neurologist prescribed keppra and 2500 mg of Depakote. The Keppra made me so light sensitive that I had to wear sunglasses indoors. He the tried Proponol, which did nothing. Since being on such such a high dose of Depakote, my weight increased 40 in 30 days and the seizures countries to get more often severe and violent. I have only taken the Topomax for about a week, but the seizures have greatly decreased. I just feel really spaced , unsteady on my feet, tired and mentally foggy. Will this feeling last?

It takes time for your body

It takes time for your body to get used to the medication and build up the theraputic levels to the dosage the neurologist says it needs to be. Once those elvels are met then you should not have all the side effects. Thanks for your service Joe
