side effects of Lamictal

Wed, 09/28/2005 - 22:07
my name is carol. I have had seizures for 33 years. They are partial nocturnal seizures. I get them when I go off to sleep at night or when I take a nap. I have been taking Lamictal for 5 years now. Ever since they put me on Lamictal I have dizziness, fatigue, anxiety and nausea. All the dr's said Lamictal has the fewest side effects. They blamed my symptoms to be psychiatric. I know its the Lamictal, I am very sensitive to these drugs and I have been just about all of them. Has anyone had these side effects from Lamictal Carol carol211@comcast.net

Welcome to the group Carol, I have been on lamictal since September of 1997 and the only side effects I end up having take place as I am increasing the dosage amount. But once I reach to the prescribed dosage level the side effects slowly start to fade away. I have seen several other peoples posted stories about them having more seizures taking place while they're asleep, and now want to look for more information about the situations. There were several times in my past when I ended up having seizures while I was asleep, but apparently with the two medications and the dosage amount that I am now taking, there is enough there to control my seizures so they do not happen while I am asleep. I just did a quick search through this website and found something on this one, which might give you some more information about nocturnal seizures. http://www.epilepsy.com/articles/ar_1063155671.html As for the lamictal you're taking and the side effects, apparently something needs to be adjusted and or changed. Have you ever been seen by a neurologist or epileptologist? General neurologist basically focus their attention with all that pertains to neurology, but the epileptologist focuses most of their attention directly on people with epilepsy. If you have not been seen by an epileptologist, maybe now is a good time to locate the ones closest to you. Bruce (link guy) Disabled American Veteran
