A Sailor on Depakote!!

Sun, 07/12/2015 - 22:20

Hey there, I'm looking for some answers or advice from anyone that has been or is on Depakote.

I'm 19yrs old and have had 3 grand mal seizures and am waiting to see if I will seperate from the Navy. In the mean time my doctor has had me on Keppra which turned into Kepprage! So he switched me to depakote and I've been on it for about 3-4 months now and have no emotional issues but a lot of other negative side effects. I have gained about 8 pounds and have had a ridiculous craving for salty foods, I cannot shake the urge to eat chips, chex mix, french fries and anything else that can possibly fill my sodium crave. Has anyone else had a food craving change? It wasn't right away that this happened once I started the meds so I don't blame all the weight gain on it, I feel like it stores a lot of water weight as well and that's all I like to drink. Also I sometimes have chest pains after taking my meds which is before bed and last night I had the worst one where I had to sit up and breathe deeply to calm myself and the feeling down...It was about an hour after I'd taken my pills. I don't want to change my meds again, my doctor thinks I should wait it out, but I'm over seas and don't have the best doctor to attend to so the side effects bug me and I'd rather not be on medication to be honest, but anything to stop the seizures, which both meds have.

So if anyone can help or has had these problems, do you have any advice? Thank you in advance!
