Thu, 01/19/2017 - 07:59
Have been on phenytoin 300mg for over 1 year now and getting reduced as starting the new brivat medication. Went for blood test before they reduced and it was at 25, had to go back 1 week later and get more blood and it went up to 28. Was reduced to 275mg, went for blood test 1 week after and it's still rising to 32 now!! Has anyone had this problem with phenytoin??

My son was just  prescribed

Submitted by QuinC on Thu, 2017-02-09 - 20:38
My son was just  prescribed Dilantin 3 x day 100mg each. Unable to tolerate this, he was throwing up  and felt very slowed down. Took him back to the hospital a few days later at which point, they tested the levels in his system. Normal range level is between  40-80 and his was 107 (lethal level). They attempted a reduction to 2 x day. We are awaiting levels but suspect no good as it seems he's  not tolerating just taking one. In order for docs to change meds, have to once again hope the doc in emerg listens. Anyone know of a seizure med that is easy on the body? Phenytoin is the same as Dilantin I  believe.
