MEMORY ISSUES

Wed, 05/27/2015 - 06:10

Good morning,

My daughter is 9 years old, was diagnosed with Epilepsy last April. She is currently taking 300 mg Epilim Chrono twice a day, and 100mg Lamictal once a day. We increase the Lamictal from 25mg to 50mg in April, and on 5 May we started her on 100mg. I have noticed an extreme change in her memory since she wrote exams in March, compared to the exam she has been writing this month.

Below are her exam results. Can this be from the Lamictal? I have not informed her doctor yet, as we have not yet received all her results. I am wondering if I should wait for all the results, or should I contact her immediately. Her marks have dropped by 40% - this huge change in results is worrying me. She also comes home from school, and doesn't remember what work they dealt with in class.

Any assistance is appreciated!

Thank you!

I started having seizures

Submitted by just_joe on Thu, 2015-05-28 - 16:36
I started having seizures when I was changing from a kid to a teen. Medications can cause some problems while getting to the theraputic levels the neurologist wants. After that there are still some issues that happen. For a period of 3-4 months I had problems remembering some things that happened in class. My grades sucked big time since I was a A-B student. Those 4 months I was a D-C student. I worked at remembering things and it does help. Howefer after the theraputic levels get set I had no problems and was back to near the top of my class in all courses. Except French. Wait until the next visit and discuss this issue with her neurologist and while waiting see what happens. I surprised my stepfather. So your daughter might get things togetherr and surprise you I would also get the my epilepsy diary and use it. There is a note pad in it to nnote things tht happened on that day. If you get it then please give her neurologist permission to bring it up and if he does he can look at the graphs and other data which can help him with medications, dosages and procedures, If she is taking medications 2 times a day then those doses need to be 12 hours apart. If taken once a day that time needs to be the same time every day. If taken a few hours late it can cause break thru seizures. I hope this helps and your daughter gets seizure free Joe
