Lamictal, JME, tonic-clonic and other fun things

Howdy! I was just reading through some things about Lamictal and such. O.k., so I'm getting that my doc is treating me with 150 mgs of Lamictal 2X/day, (not that that's particularly relevant), because of my JME. I've decided that this might not be the brightest move. I realize that he is treating my myoclonis and not my giganticly amazing break dancing skills, but... My JME is my signal that I'm walking on the wire for a tonic-clonic. One of the last seizures I had, I was in the shower all proud of myself for not jerking hardly at all. My sleep was all screwed up, but I got up in the afternoon - you guys know the sleep story. **my stories drone on and on... you are getting sleepy...** Then I had a big, fatty-fat seizure and really kicked my own ass in the tub. No warning sign. Should I really be treating this? MUST I take another type of medication to control my big ol' seizures as well. I've noticed that I still have the same frequency of major t-c seizures as I do without meds. It's really confusing when I have them now because there's no warning, I don't see myself fall - have no idea that I had one until I feel my tongue or my broken egg shell noggin. **very sleepy now... you must send me large amounts of US dollars... you are still very, very sleepy.** I also want to dabble in a more natural way to control these things. I'm not living alone anymore and I know my limits for sleep. ?? I want to know if you think I should continue Lamictal. I want to know what you think about taking progesterone birth control pills to control my estrogen dependent seizure risk. I want to know if Lamictal is an antidepressant and if it interferes with IUD contraceptive use. ?? I have so many questions - please give me your opinions and any resources you think are relevent for my quest. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!! ** You're waking up 3..2..1 You're wide awake to answer Caboose's question** Caboose.

Caboose, I have all the same questions you do, and this is such a frustrating thing to go through...I hope you have more luck than I do trying to figure out what medication you should be on...

The one thing I can tell you is that I have heard that Lamictal has a tendancy to make the myoclonic jerks worse in JME patients. Also, JME is a condition that usually requires life long treatment with meds. Good luck.

So far I have been on Lamictal 2yrs. now at 200 x 2 daily =400mg total. Do any of you feel your appetite is suppressed after taking your meds? Do any of you suffer from cloudy vision afterwards? I was curious to see if other Lamictal users had similar side-effects. Trileptal made me very drowsy & didn't help the grand-mal seizures at all. I don't have any of the usual shaking other sufferers describe. According to my sister; I moan, my eyes roll back in my head and sometimes stop breathing briefly. I come to with vomiting etc. The only warnings recognized so far are the buzzing in 1.the "aura" 2.buzzing in my ears 3. intense nausea 4. dizzy or disorientated 5. Sometimes shortness of breath or maybe that was also an asthma attack? (Shrugs in confusion) I am sending anti-seizure protection vibes towards everyone in hopes we will all feel better. Too bad we don't have smilies with different emotions available here. Hugs all around. Heather
