Lamactil and CKD

Thu, 03/05/2015 - 02:24

Hi

I am so stressed out. I have been diagnosed with stage 3a chronic kidney disease last September and now have moved into 3b. I am just waiting result from a microalbuminurea test but things aren't looking the best. I am 48 years old, have 2 young children and I am terrified of what lies ahead. My Dr says it's because the Lamactil (lamotragine) I am on is nephrotoxic and there is nothing that we can really do as there are no epilepsy medications that don't carry these side effects. The Lamactil controls my epilepsy really well since being increased to 350mgs around 3 years ago.

I have grand mal and petit mal seizures and have been seizure free for around 2 years. I was diagnosed when I was 24.

Is anyone else having these problems and if so, what do you advise.

Is the doctor you are

Is the doctor you are refering to a neurologist specializing in epilepsy?? If not he may not know all th new medications that are or have come out. Many medications work in one organ or another which is why several medicines require blood level testing yearly. You might get more information by calling the 24/7 help line in here. They can help you get information or they might get information from a spcialist that can answer your questions. The Help line can be found on this site in the get help section or the upper left side of this page
