Keppra / Levetiracetam - alcohol & emotion

Sun, 04/30/2017 - 18:50
I've got petit mal epilepsy and it exhibits itself as blank spells, poor concentration, inability to remember words (but I can describe what I'm talking about, so its makes conversation wacky!), slight paranoia & anxiety, and vivid & breathtaking dreams. I've been on lamotrigine for 17 years now (I was only diagnosed in my early twenties), but about 10 months ago I started rapidly going down hill, i.e. all the above that I seemed to have banished, or at least reduced (I missed the dreams!), during the early noughties are now back. My epilepsy doctor is a very nice person but can appear a bit lacking, so I never know if I'm getting all the information I need. She gave me Keppra and pretty much said she didn't exactly know how it worked, just that it didn't react with lamotrigine, so it was the best thing to try me on. My epilepsy improved hugely, but not back to where I was before. She's upped my dose and I suspect that will be on the cards in the future. So I have two questions: I very rarely drink alcohol, I have a glass of mead once a month, if that, or a pint of cider if I go to the pub, again about once a month or more. This has been okay on lamotrigine as its so very rare, I've not had any ill effects. But I believe Keppra is processed through the liver, so I'm concerned about whether I should now stop drinking altogether? Has anyone else tried drinking with this tablets combination? My other question is my emotional problems. I've been having a tough time at work recently (possibly what triggered my initial relapse), so I don't know if my paranoia & anxiety are due to this, epilepsy or Keppra. Has anyone else found they've got very emotional since taking Keppra? Thanks for reading my monologue, any responses greatly appreciated.
