increased lamictal dose & depression

Tue, 08/18/2015 - 23:15

Hi! I'm 19 and was diagnosed with epilepsy almost 3 years ago. I was taking 150mg in the morning and 150mg at night up until a few months ago when it was increased to 225mg at night because I was still having that weird feeling around lights, fans, etc. Since my dose was increased I've been feeling not like myself. just bland, sad for no reason at all and like what I think is depression. Has this happened to any of you? I want to go back to my lower dosage but I'm afraid that could give me a seizure. are there alternative medicines out there that will make me feel myself again :(

What you are talking about

What you are talking about lands in side effects from the meds. It takes a little time for your body to adjust and the therapeutic levels get where the neurologist wants them to be. Give it a few weeks from the time the increase was started. If after 3 weeks it hasn't gone away then do call your neurologist. Yes it has happened to me many different times. Right now I have an issue with a medication for my heart rate which was increased. A-fib can also be controlled with medications which control the beats per minute. If we can't get them going at a set rate then I may need an abilation.I hope this helps and you get your meds setJoe

I take the highest dosage of

I take the highest dosage of Lamictal.  It is the only thing that keeps my seizures under control.  I have the same feelings you do.  My neurologist says it is common across the board with many Epileptic patients.  I have found that I have to force myself to get up and go.  I never regret it when I do, Im back to my old self again.  As long as I have productive days where Im out and about I can over come it.  I hope this helps and good luck.
