Generic Trileptal problems

Mon, 11/03/2014 - 08:44

Hello. I have a special needs son who recently switched from brand-name Trileptal to generic. Previously, he had a grand mal seizure every 18 to 24 months. In the past three weeks, he had two consecutive seizures at school, and just had another one in the middle of the night. I suspect it is the generic causing the problem. I spoke with the pharmacist after the first episode, and he said the generic, under the law, has to have the same effectiveness as the brand name. I understand that, and I have no problem with generics, per say. It is this particular generic I am wondering about. It is a liquid manufactured by Amneal. The pharmacist said I could have the the doctor write a prescription for Dispense as written, although I am not sure if my insurance would pay for it like that. (They previously paid for the brand name version). I am wondering if anyone else has had simular problems?
