Generic medication

Wed, 04/08/2015 - 17:07

Some brief background: I've been taking the brand-name Lamictal medication for several years now with no serious issues.  I recently refilled my prescription and was sent the generic lamotrigine medication.  My options are to get a new refill of the brand-name medication or start taking generics.  My research on whether switching to generics is a safe option has been far from conclusive--I've been told that generics are acceptable, or that they are substandard, or that they are fine for everything but anti-seizure medications.  Has anyone made this switch before?  Did you notice any problems or changes?  I recognize that everyone is different, but I just can't seem to get any indication one way or another.  Thanks.

JMDGenerics have the same

JMDGenerics have the same working ingredients that name brand have. The main difference is the fillers. I have used many different generics and yes I do mean for AED'sI was one of the people who first tried the generic for keppra. I needed to cut the cost down and Doc know it. Keppra was costing me 98500 per month which was over half of my take home pay. So I had him write a prescription. I have had no problems using it or any other generics and most of those were also generics for AED'sI know if yo u research and read posts about generics or even name brand meds you can come up with all kinds of things written about how bad they were. I know better then some people since I have been in drug studies for new medications. Side effects do happen and you will read about them/ But understand that the side effects do happen but the people who have them are 5-8% of the people taking the medication. So what about the 92-98% of the people that have had no problems???I have known about generics and many have worked for me.The other thing you also need to know is that because of changes done regarding obamacare pharmacies are now required to use the generic. If you want the name brand a way to get it by having your doctor add NAME BRAND ONLY written on the RXI hope this helpsJoe

I've only taken the name

I've only taken the name brand Lamictal because of side effects and that it didn't keep my seizures controlled.  So I think that if you started on the name brand stay on it because you can be experimenting sometimes.
