Epilim and Clonazepam

Mon, 06/05/2006 - 03:04
Dear All, Our four year old son Arthur has been diagnosed after E.E.G with generalized / myoclonic epilepsy and has been suffering seizures for the past 8 weeks. Arthur suffers the classic myoclonic jerks and also falls to the floor, either from muscle stiffening or slackening. We are assured that these drops fit within the body of myoclonic epilepsy, although to the lay person they seem to mirror atonic seizures. Epilim introduced initially but never completely dealt with the seizures as consultant thought it had reached its' optimum effectiveness. Clonazepam was introduced which instantly stopped all seizures but in its' wake left Arthur drunk and disorderly. On the clonazepam for 2 weeks, no improvement in the side- effects, skin rash, return of the seizures.. thick and fast. Arthur admitted to hospital for 2 days with a battery of tests and haevy sedation. So here we are with a regime of reducing epilim slowly, staying on the clonazepam which we are advised to stick with for at least another two weeks as the side effects will wear off. Can anyone advise us? Has anyone had a similar experience? Thanks Cate x
