Dilantin: All at once vs. spread out (and the food thing)

Wed, 10/25/2006 - 09:37
As of last night, my Dilantin was raised to 400mg. :/ Not feeling particularly chipper about that, but meh...what can you do, eh? I am curious about one thing. A lot of literature on Dilantin recommends it be taken in separate doses of 100mg spread out. Some recommends the 300mg dose be taken all at once. I am on 400mg all at once, and I take it right before bed. The other thing is, according the the information sheet, I'm not supposed to eat for 2 hours before or 30 minutes after. Does anyone know if this includes tea or other beverages? I avoid orange juice because of the high vitamin content. Just curious. :)

Hi, my name s Tom, just got back from the hospital last night from having my second seizure early Monday morning. The doctor put me on 300mg of Dilantin. He gave it to me in pill form after introducing it to me through IV. When I was discharged he said as long as you take your prescribed amount within 24 hours it doesn't matter how you take it. Personally I take one pill in the morning, one in the afternoon and one at night only because they knock me out if I take all three at once. Haven't heard anything about not eating before or after taking the meds, while in the hospital I ate right before and after with no problems...
