Difficulties finding medications

Mon, 03/09/2015 - 15:05

Hi, I was doing well on Vimpat at 150mg. I have a seizure usually once a year or so but we were hoping to get rid of the seizures with medication. I tried all the 'usual' drugs. They all had terrible side effects- Vimpat didn't have many for me. I had one confusional migraine on Vimpat but uped the dose and then seemed fine. I had a seizure two days ago. Nothing was different except I was on my period (same as the migraine). I know that my seizures and period are linked but I am struggling to find a medication to help. I am also on a birth control medication to help control my period. I am feeling desperate and the doctors are having a hard time figuring out what to do with me.... Any advice? Thank you!

Welllllllllll It  does take

Welllllllllll It  does take some thinking and some work to get the rigght medication and get it set at the right dosage. With some women it can be harder. It may be the theraputic levels are high enough to stop most seizures. But the theraputic level is low enough to let a break thru seizure happen during your time of the month.Something most people do not think about is if your medication dosage is 2 times a day. Those time periods need to be 12 hours apart. &am and 7 pm. If taken at 7 am and 10 pm the 3 hour dlay means that you might have levels lower during a 3 hour period of time which could also cause a breakthru seizure. I hope this helps but do check with your neurologist about the time period between dosages and possiabile theraputic levels Joe

Thank you (Joe) for sharing

Your welcome.. when I was diagnosed there were no forums and you had to learn by going thru all kinds of stuff.Relax it does take time to get meds and dosages set. Been there done that. With you only having a seizure now and then it can be tricky. It was for me when I went 3 years without any seizures. It wasn't the dosages or medications but a triger I didn't know about. Come back and let us know how things are going Joe
