Any medications without memory loss?

Tue, 04/26/2016 - 12:49
Hello I've been trying to research medications that do not cause memory loss. I am currently on Tegretol XR (800MG Daily), and have been for 12 years. Over the past couple of years I've noticed some slight memory issues. Usually it's just having trouble recalling a word, or someone's name. It's something I don't mind dealing with, but the thought of it progressing as I get older scares me (I'm 30 years old). It seems this side effect is extremely common among other people using Tegretol. I feel very lucky, because I have no other side effects from this drug, and I've been seizure free for 9 years. When I started looking into other medications, searching for one without memory loss, it seems every one I track down does. I was wondering if anyone knows of other medications that do not cause this side effect over long term. Or maybe this is just something all seizure medications cause. I plan on asking my neurologist in a couple of weeks, but fear that he will downplay the whole idea. Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to respond.

Like Amy Jo says e[epilepsy in its self cause memory problems depending what causes your epilepsy. Be careful with Tegetol though. I have been on it for 13 years and just found out it causes problems wit bone density that most doctors do not know about. I have lost teeth due to it and currently have 2 compression fractures in my back because of it.
