4 yr old refusing to take Zarontin. Help!

Tue, 09/30/2014 - 08:56

My 4 year old daughter was diagnoses with absence seizures. She's been put on liquid Zarontin since Sept. 11th and it a battle. We've tried it all. Every food item every drink. We've changed the flavor twice from the original flavor to bubble gum then to grape.  She was giving in but sometimes it would be two hours of sitting at the table before she took it.  And she'd get really angry with spouts of hitting a and biting.  Finally we decided to try the capsules. We had initial success (like she's walled it twice) but then she decided the pills were yucky too and refused to even put them in her mouth.  We are at a loss. Th doctor said the alternate is to try depakote but I'm nervous to do that with chance of more serious side effects.  What should I do?
