Sudden increase in seizures

Fri, 04/19/2013 - 20:56
Hi, My 6 year old daughter was diagnosed with epilepsy about 2 years ago with complex partial seizures happening as frequently as 2-3 times daily. She is on her 4th medicine and she has never been fully controlled. We started her on Onfi(clobazam)in late December, and we saw an immediate decrease in her seizures. She was doing much better till early April, a very mild one once in 2 weeks. We thought we found the miracle drug. But, in the last 1 week, her seizures have suddenly come back with a vengeance, she's had about 20 seizures in the last week, ranging from 2 to even 8 seizures in one day. She is currently on Trileptal, lamictal XR, and Onfi. We are increasing Onfi and reducing Trileptal. The changes that we have done recently are reduced trileptal from 450mg to 300mg about a month back. And increased Onfi from 12.5mg to 15mg about 3 weeks back. The neurologist asked us to increase the trileptal back to 450mg and wait for 3 days, but we have not seen any improvements yet. I wanted to see if anyone on this forum have any experience about a very sudden increase in seizure frequency. I also wanted to add that she's had a series of infections in the last month. She was diagnosed with strep throat 2 weeks back, and we just finished off her amoxicillin 2 days back. Has anyone seen any issues with amoxicillin? She took Amoxicillin in early March for ear infection, and did not have any problem. Sorry for such a long post, but I'm really hoping for some ideas, suggestions or experiences. Thank you.
