Seizure Meds and Mood Disturbance?

Wed, 12/31/2014 - 16:25

my little brother went to the hospital a year ago for an intense onset of seizures. he was in the hospital for 5 months, lost and regained his abilities to walk and talk & was released right before his 4th birthday. he now remains on  a plethera of med ications & recently his sweet compassionate demeaner has turned at times obsessive, deviant or unempathetic to human emotion.

the obsessive behaviour is not that strange, we've noticed it subtley for years but it has been getting worse. the thing i was wondering is if these medications are affecting his mood (which is listed in ALL their side effects) could this be worstening his OCD like tendencies? (making things less easy to let go of/ making the reaction more violent/severe)

& what can we do about such a outgoing, loving child becoming apathetic & saying hurtful things like "i dont love you", uttering threats or talking about dying? i know hes having a hard time, but this is really out of character for him. What can my family and i do to help keep him happy and get him healthier?

right now hes on leviracetam, topiramate, phenobarb, clobazam & oxcarbazepine. I would love for him to get off drugs but it is such a slow process to try to wean him off without having the seizures recur. he's only 4 & been on the drugs for a bit over a year im worried about the long term effects of these & am looking for other options.

any suggestions appreciated.

Leviracetam gave me mood

Leviracetam gave me mood problems. The med didn't inspire emotions but kind of intensified them and made them hard to control. I found myself crying sometimes and, at the same time, asking myself why I was. Pills can definitely do things to your mood.

You should consult with health professional which deals in some matters. Ask him for advice.Merchant Cash Advance
