Looking for Answers for my Boy

My seven year old son began having unusal mood swings (going from happy to crying or happy to very angry), difficulties with attention and focus, getting sudden and severe headaches and vomitting from them then sleeping aftewards, telling us his legs would stop working for a minute, saying his ears turn off and then back on, and regression with reading, writing, and memory. He began telling me something was wrong with his brain. Thoughout the process of trying to figure out what was going on he had Strep 8 times over 9 months and a blood test showed that he previouly had MONO. We took him to a neurologist who ordered a MRI and EEG. MRI came back fine. EEG came back abnormal with generalized epileptiform discharges and bursts of diffuse spike and sharp waves. First neurologist we saw said epilepsy and wanted to start Keppra. When we went to discuss results another neurologist said wait on meds since he did not have any actual seizures (we have never seen a definite seizure and he did not have an actual seizure on the eeg). My son is still having these difficulties so he had a 24 hour eeg. This eeg showed the same thing. Current neuro doesn't know what to think. Says she has never medicated for seizures without seeing seizures but the spikes and discharges are concerning. epilepsy or not? meds or no? She said we could try Depakote for a month trial to see if it helps. I am looking for any advice. Do these behaviors and the abnormal eeg show signs of epilepsy? or something else?

I will give you my honest advice.Don't wait until the worse happens. The evidence is conclusive: two abnormal EEGs, pervasive auras, fainting spells and nausea, regression in school, and he knows something is wrong and told you. Your child asked for your help. Those symptoms you describe are epilleosy symptoms. His tests confirm epilepsy. Those symptoms if untreated can cause larger seizures, permanent brain damage, cognitive problems, social problems. Medication eliminates the risk of larger seizures and minimizes or eliminates symptoms. It is up to you if you want to wait until something terrible happens. And when you see what happens it cannot be erased from your head ever! Those little symtomps will only get worse, and worse and worse the longer you wait until one day the flood gates open. Read around here people that chose not to medicate and ended up in the PICU weeks later.
