Just back from 2nd video EEG

Tue, 01/23/2007 - 21:48
Well, We just got home from the hospital an hour away where Cody had his second VEEG. The 1st one was last March and was totally unhelpful. He sat for 5 days and had only 1 seizure... over the last year he's had a PET scan, neuropsych testing, MRI, Wada test. This VEEG was much more fruitful than the last one. He had 6 seizures.. one from the left side and 5 from the right. However, the "in between" (interictal) seizure activity was mostly coming from the left side and all of the other tests have pointed at the left side being his primary problem. So, our next step, if he is approved by the neurosurgical committee, is to go for invasive monitoring and possible resection of his left temporal lobe. I am terrified, but know it's his best hope right now. He is also now taking topamax in addition to keppra. Best wishes and calm thoughts to all of our children and their parents. ;-) Holly
