Anyone get really tired with absence epilepsy?

Mon, 08/29/2011 - 16:16
I was diagnosed with absence epilepsy like a month ago, but I've been tired all the time for a yearish now. I am on medication now, and I'm just wondering if maybe it's something to do with my medication or still with my absences. Or just let me know if you get tired too :P whatever floats your boat ;)

When I was on medication all I did was sleep. I was on Trileptal as well as another medication at the time and 20 minutes after taking it (which i did twice a day) I would fall asleep and wake up hours later.

I have TLE and as far as sleep goes, I´m pretty irregular. Some weeks I don´t sleep much and others I sleep the whole night and in the evening. I´ve always been like that. I can´t blame medication for this because I´ve been off medication for two years now.

Maybe it´s just something that comes hand in hand with epilepsy?

Hi Jessic & hearin - Hope this finds you well. My Szs cover right across the board, from mere absences to PS & GM & then to SE - In a perverse sort of way I've always found the aftermath of a big Sz, in particular, a most relaxing experience! Or maybe I'm just odd & it comes with the Irish in me !! As a consequence the more intense the episode, the more tired or sleepy I am. After an absence I've simply dozed for half an hour but after a GM (about 6-10 pw) I've easily slept, almost comatose-like for 5-6 hrs. So I'd say yes, the Sz induces tiredness & sleep for me but I don't know to what extent my meds are a mitigating factor. Take care J. "Even monkeys fall from trees"!
