unaware of epilepsy

Fri, 08/11/2006 - 14:35
i think that majority of people are unaware about the seriousness of epilepsy. Since i am home alot i watch alot of television and i never see a drive or a walk or anything concerning epilepsy. I think that people need to be more educated on it because as we know it can be very challenging and frustrating and the more people are aware of it the ones that don't live with epilepsy could better understand. i am a epileptic. Its very hard to live a normal life because most epileptics are limited throughout the day. Take me for example i use to work now i am on disabilty. I would like to see more people educated about the illness.

I sure agree. I have gotten so many stupid comments, really I should say uninformed comments that years ago I started a thread stating some of them, others added things said to them and it was sadly humorous what others have said to us out of ignorance. I'm on Disability too. I would just do anything to work. Have tried so hard but I sz daily, and the minute I tell any prospective employer that seizure or epilepsy word? I can almost hear my name crossed off the list. My daughter and I have written a PSA over the last few years we've gotten aired for free on radio stations. I've written another one now and we're peddling that. I have begged the EFA, our "representative", to do TV spots as other diseases and syndromes have that I have found very informative, but I'm told it's not in the budget. Well? Put the dang thing in the budget. This effects relationships, employment, income, self esteem and I'm constantly astounded how little people know about it. It's not their fault they don't know. It's the fault of our rep's that get money donations I feel who aren't educating. There's also another thread on this. Gretchen
