Trip to India, then surgery...or surgery first? Please comment

Hi everyone, hope all is doing well. To put a long story short...I am 31 years old, I am a candidate for surgery, going thru tests at the mo. If all goes well, I will most likely end up having the surgery. But I dont know when that will be yet. The chances are it could be anytime from this December onwards. Now, my BF and I are planning on going on a trip to India for a few weeks either in November, December, or January to see his parents for the first time in 3.5 years! I have spoken to the hospital about this and they said this is no problem, i can have the surgery when i get back from India. Now...the concerns myself and my BF have are that it is possible me being western, and if I pick up some kind of illness or bug in india as some travellers do, I may not recover from it so quickly like someone from India. This would cause a delay in the surgery when we get back and for how long, who knows? But only if this were to happen. My BF own niece a few weeks ago caught the chichen gunea (sorry about the spelling) and was ill for a while. This is an illness spreading in India now through Mosquitos and there is no immunisation for it. Most people do recover from it in time especially young people, but there have been some cases where people have actually died from it since last summer. The elderly would find it very hard to recover from it for example. My BF is wondering if we should have the surgery first, recover from that first which can take a while, depending on the individual, and then take the trip to India, or should we go to India first? Please please please, any comments on this would be very much appreciated. My BF and I have to decide in the next month or so to organise time off from work for the trip, and book the flights etc. Meeting his parents his important and so is the surgery. They can both be postponed. Which to do first? Thanks in advance Quirky

Hi Quirky: I think you should have the surgery first becuase you have been dealing with this conditions for some time now, right? It would be great to go to India after a successful surgery and less on your mind regarding your health. If I were to go to India, I think I would be so concerned about picking up something that it would be hard to enjoy myself and be myself that I might come off the wrong way to people I want to make a good impression on, that's just me. Hi V, Thanks for the comment. I see your point. And yes, I have been dealing with this condition for a while now, 21 years now. I shoulod have mentioned earlier, the reason why my BF and I are debating between the two is because we have been having a rough time the last few years trying to sort issues out with his parents because of the fact that we are together in the first place and are hoping to get married with their blessing. Traditional ways and cultural differences can put a toll on he relationship when the parents are not willing to come around to different ways of the world. But my BF 's parents are slowly willing to fianlly meet me, and myself and my BF are delighted and are hoping that this will help them to see a new light as such, and stop delaying us from getting married. I am 31, and I would like to settle down with children while still young. My BF and I were hoping to get married maybe next year but that is probably wishful thinking! I want the surgery ssoner rather than later, but I dont think it will happen til next year. Who knows? I just have to be patient. Thank you for your comment. I understand what you were saying and why. I will keep it in mind. My BF and I are still confused. thanks :-)
