Topirimate/Topamax

Sat, 08/05/2017 - 20:57
I have recently been adjusting up to a high dosage of Topirimate and it has been almost two weeks until the first day I took the amount I was told to adjust up to which is 400mg a day. I have never really had side effects with medications and was wondering if anyone who takes or has taken this medication had/has a side effect where if you touch your nose or upper lip it seems like a pins and needles numbness feeling? Its just kind of worrisome to me that it suddenly came on out of no where considering I have been on the medication for awhile but on a lower dose.

It could be a side effect

It could be a side effect that will generally go away after the increased dosage gets to the therapeutic level your neurologist wants.

I have been on topamax for almost 20 years (current dose is 700mg/day). I don't remember if I had the pins and needles (paraesthesia) in the beginning, but it is listed as a side effect If you review a detailed drug profile. If you are concerned, double check with your neurologist's office.

Hi Kimberly! I was on Topamax for 2 years and had nothing but side effects. I was toxic at 550mgs and had to switch to Lamictal. Yes, I had the pins and needles in my lips and hands and feet. I am a professional musician and could not play while on Topamax because I couldn't feel my lips nor get my hands to work properly. Hopefully everything works out for you. Good Luck!   Monica Lynn
