TLE/Temper

Thu, 08/09/2007 - 00:17
I was diagnosed with TLE while going to marriage counseling. I do not have convulsions, do not have auras, never smell anything...no warning. What I do have is quick and overblown reactions to things. My marriage is over, my family is completely alienated...and so on and so forth. The carbomazapine helps, but does not prevent seizures when confronted with high emotional stress. My familiy says "it is all in my head" that "seizures" are just an excuse for bad behavior etc. I do not mean to be bad. Often I do not remember what I have said or think I said it in a calm way when in acutality I have not. Does anyone have any experience with this????

Hi Shadowz. You're not alone in this 'coz I go through the same thing. I am no longer in association with my siblings because of my "behavior". The thing is they never educated themselves in what I have. I am a complex partial seizure patient and all of the "behavior" that I've been experiencing as my doctor told me is part of being a seizure patient. It's not you, but as a seizure patient we have times of "acting out". Sometimes it may be a side effect of the meds you are taking or depending on the type of seizure you have you will have times of having mood swings. It's almost like having PMS. As my doctor told me that all the issues that I have ever experienced are all part of being a seizure patient. Now if you were some healthy person like the rest of the world then you wouldn't have to worry about this. But, of course, those who are not educated on Ep will always make negative remarks which 9 out of 10 will place the blame on you. Imagine that? sigh sigh sigh Seizuregirl "Life is what you make of it"

I also have tle and I am currently on Keppra. I was diagnosed about 1 1/2 year ago but had been having seizures for years but didn't know what they were. I have noticed that my temper is very short.I feel irritated alot and don't know why. I snap at my kids and my husband. Is it me the meds or the epilepsy. I have no idea. My husband says I am always moody and we are having problems because of it. I guess after reading some of these other forums that I should ask my dr. next time. The good news is I have not had a seizure in 1 year. Please let me know if this moodiness comes with the epilepsy. Kitzies

I have had mood swings lately. I am on Keppra and Lamictal. I also catch myself "popping off" quickly (you know, getting ticked off). I don't know if it meds or ep. It gets on my nerves that I get ticked off easily, but I do not notice myself popping off, until after it happens. I ask my mother a question; if she has not answered my question in like 30 seconds to a minute, I pop off at her. I am very short tempered. My doc says that a lot of ep patients have depression. I do not know if that may be a sign of depression. I just know that it gets on my nerves doing that. I feel bad about what I do, after I do it.
