taurine

Hello again, i was wondering if there is anyone else who has heard of taurine supplements?! I'm a female adult who has been living with epilepsy since I was 10, now 23 and I've been a vegetarian for about 4 yrs. I'm starting to question if my lifestyle choice of being a vegetarian is creating an increase in my seizures. So I requested some books from the library and they were discussing taurine, as well as vit E, DMG, and manganese, as supplements to help control your seizures and reduce the amount of medication you were on. I was just wondering if anyone else had heard of this or is currently seeing/asked there doctor regarding it. I also did some indepent research and discovered that taurine is an amino acid and how it binds to your neuro-receptors is helpful but I'm still not sure if my being a vegetarian is affecting it. thanks for your input, and please feel free to correct me if I am wrong or you have more up to date information. Thanks, maggie

Please be careful. I was a vegan for 10yr. I have epilepsy but also am hypoglycemic. At the time I was having 10+ grand mals a day, someone finaly checked my blood sugar and found it to be at 17 (30 is deadly). I know you are wandering why I am telling this to you but after starting to eat meat again I am down to 2 to 3 seizures a month. Protein is soooo extremely important to brain function. Be careful. I am by no means suggesting going on the ketogenic diet but they have a lot of info on protein and vitamins. Good luck.
