Surgical Tech. Job

Tue, 04/21/2015 - 09:48

I recently put a post in "Living with Epilepsy - Adults" about some job issues I was currently having. Before I even wrote about the problem I was having though, I gave a little back story about myself. I wrote that I was going to college to be a Surgical Technologist, but someone commented and said that I should get out of that. They wrote quite a bit explaining why too. And it got me thinking. A hospital wouldn't want to risk having someone with epilepsy in the OR. Even though my seizures are controlled now, it doesn't mean my seizures are gone. I could still have a seizure at any time.

So should I change my major or am I safe to continue it? Would hospitals allow me to be in the OR?

you do need to check with major hospitals to see their qualifications regarding people who have epilepsy. There are several reasons many wont and the main reason is the liability.
