Sudden Increase in Seizures

Wed, 03/11/2015 - 13:13

I've had eplilepsy since I was about 12. JME until I was around 18 or so then Simple Partial Seizures that only happened in my sleep every once in a while. I take 375mg of Zonisamide. My seizures were under control for about 3 years until I started Levothyroxine for my Hypothyroidism. I had 1 or 2 simple partials in my sleep, then I was okay again for a few months. Then for the first time I began having fully awake partial seizures accompanied by headaches around 2 per week for the past 6 weeks. It's been really tough. I'm trying to make sure I'm getting enough sleep but wow. Has anyone else experienced a sudden increase in seizures? Any idea what the cause could be? Any advice on what I should do?

WelcomeThere are things that

WelcomeThere are things that need to be checked and looked ar generally yearly. Those things are the medications you take and if you are still having seizures. Which is also why a neurologist wants to see you about 6-18 months after a good visit. If your seizures increased in that period of time then your body has gotten used to the medication and it has changed. Weight gain or hormonial changes do affect medications. A persons body can get used to the medication and it doesn't work as well as it did before. Been there done that. It it were me I would have called Doc and discussed this issue with him. If you have a good relationship with your neurologist call him. It can be cheaper then a visit. but if you haven't seen him in a while then he may want you to come in.Either way you can get the assistance you need...

Dani..........Jazz has some very good info. Record known and suspected seizure activity. If the neuro sees your information he might be able to notice any specific patterns in your activity. Try to also list the aprox. seizure duration if you can. Number of seconds or aprox. Intensity.Keep your chin up.Mike
