Successful treatment for simple seizures, anyone?

Sat, 11/28/2015 - 20:37

Hello,

I wanted to hear from anyone regarding treatment that works for them. I have simple seizures (temporal lobe) and I am on 500mg lamictal which has reduced the severity of my symptoms but has not tremendously reduced the frequency.

My symptoms are the following:

Sudden intense depression/emotional pain (sooo hard to describe), usually followed by or with diarrhea.

Any thoughts?

If your seizures have been

If your seizures have been reduced the medication is working. Now understand that most neurologists want you on the medication for some period of time before changing the dosage levels. If they haven't set up an apt for your next visit then you do need to find out about it since you are still having some. Also keep track of how many you are having. By knowing the number of seizures and how far appart the neurologist can make better adjustments. Always ask questions. By asking your questions he knows you want results. Keep a good relationship with them and some of your questions can be answered in a phone call I hope this helps Joe

It makes sense. The medication is working if the number of seizures has been reduced. I does take working with your neurologist and letting him know how often your seizures are apart. Along with what kind of situation you might have been in on those days. Was it stressful. Were your meds taken correctly and there could be many other things. Always question your neurologist. Does my dosage need adjusting? is there another medication we could add to this one to control my seizures better? Are there any procedures that might help control them better? If it has been 3 months since your last dosage chabgr then by all means see him and ask questions. There was a time I went 3 seizures a week which changed to 3 weekly then changed to nonr for 3 years. Then back to a seizure every now and then. Today I have a seizure every 8-14 days and they are seconds in length and even my PCP didn't know I had one wheing discussing my problem with him. It took years to get to this point. But it also took some work and not worrying about the seizures since they are blips in time compared to what is happening during the rest of the day, Also Take your meds at the same time every day. If the dosage it 2 times a day those times need to be 12 hours apart. Joe
