Seizures VS. Migraine with Aura

Tue, 09/05/2006 - 21:54
Question: Anyone have seizures AND Migraine with aura? As many of you know I'm going to the neuro on the 13th, and am doing my research before I go... I'm curious as to the similarities of seizures (partials) and migraine with aura. They both seem awfully similar, and am curious as to what you all experience... stef

Hi stef, For a complete list of aura symptoms please read Early Seizure Symptoms -> http://www.epilepsy.com/101/ep101_symptom.html (Headache is there) You will also note under Post Ictal Symptoms, it is also common for headaches to appear AFTER a seizure. I've had simple and complex partials almost my entire life and never had headaches, so it isn't always the case. ~sol

Hi Sol- Unfortunately, I had both simple and complex partial seizures for several years due to a brain tumor (removed 4 years ago). I have been seizure free since surgery, but have had constant headaches (mostly determined to be tension headaches and migraines) but in the last few months have started experiencing what I was positive were simple partials again, and am now wondering if perhaps they are migraine with aura instead of simples... When I had seizures I ALWAYS got a headache afterwards. Not fun, but what can you do? The symptoms between migraine with aura and simple/complex partial seizures is so similar that I'm not sure what's going on..

after I had my grande mal seizure, I also had a headache that was HORRIBLE, that last for days. The past couple of days I have had a severe headache. My boyfriend just got diagnosed with Migraines, and the first thing that happened was that he got blurry double vision for like two weeks. I told him he had migraines, but the doctors scared him telling him he had a stroke, even syphallus(who says that now a days) low and behold after an MRI, cat scan and brain anurism test, what does he have? Migraines! He also has auras, which is interesting. He gets what he calls "groggy" which is spacey and he has severe mood swings. it is very similar to what I get, funny how I ended up with someone who has a neurological condition too. I have wondered the same thing about the migraines, whether they are really migraines, or whether they are seizures..If you find out can you let me know! Inever had partials, always absence and one grande mal.
