Salary Continuance

Thu, 09/07/2017 - 21:45
Hi all, I am in my late 40's and was diagnosed with epilepsy 10 years ago. It has been under reasonable control, but only with many changes to medication. I still have seizures at night, but not complete grand mal's like I used to. But the level of medication is high. It has had a significant impact on my performance at work. I am in a senior role with a national responsibility. It's become more obvious during the last year that my ability to perform this role is impaired. I have been seriously considering applying for salary continuance through my superannuation. I also have income protection cover separately, starting well before I was diagnosed. I'd love to chat with anyone else who has faced this dilemma. How did you feel about it? How was your claim handled? Did you return to work at some stage? As I understand it, there is no expectations that I can return to work at the same level of responsibility. If this was the case, I'd probably not return to work, but volunteer my time in some other unpaid capacity. Thanks, Andrew

hey Andrew I've had E for over forty years now. I work in an industrial setting. I've had 2 seizures in the last few years. The last one has cost me my job. I am on short term disability and it will end soon. The money will start to get tight soon and my wife and I are starting to get angry with one another. Problem is Ive always had this condition. Is there work out there for us ? I'm tired of talking about it. Let me know how you make out. HC
