Question About Changing Seizures...

Thu, 10/27/2016 - 01:17
I'm new to this board, hoping that someone can give me a little information or maybe let me know that I'm not losing my mind. I am 38, diagnosed 15 years ago after multiple seizures, while no reason was ever found at that time I was having nocturnal seizures that I honestly had no recollection of other than the occassional headache. I counted myself very lucky all things considered, followed the doctors orders about getting sleep, took my medication and had routine blood work to check levels etc. In the last few years things have started changing. First I started experiencing absence seizures and in the last couple months I've also started having what sounds like complex partial seizures. These are the seizures that are scaring me very much. Both times I've been woken up from a sound sleep feeling very "antsy" for lack of a better word, then my chest gets very tight and I feel like I can't breath. I immediately get this horrible feeling that something bad is about to happen to me like I'm going to die. I remember waking my husband up and that's pretty much all I remember. Then my vision goes black and I can't see anything. He's told me that I've actually told him "It's about to happen", I've done the same repetitive movements both times and screamed the same things both times and also told him that I'm in pain. The next day my body feels like someone has beaten me. I have a new neurologist who I saw after the first time this happened and was told that this doesn't sound like a seizure. Unless I'm reading too much into the information that I have on the different types of seizures it sounds like one to me. Has anyone experienced a seizure like this? At any rate I know a previous doctor had told me it's not uncommon for the types of seizures people with epilepsy have to change; however, he never explained why or said if there was a known reason. I appreciate any information and wish everyone the best.

Is your new neurologist that

Is your new neurologist that specializes in epilepsy?Your previous doctor was right. I had a grand mal seizure at school which started my life with epilepsy. I also had focal seizures which affected my hand. I was asked a question by the teacher and he went to the next student. My answer was heard before that student started hers. So things were delayed because of the seizure. I also has focal seizures that generalized and became convulsive. Over time those convulsive seizures stopped and the last one I know of happened back in 1971. The ones I have currently are again focal and they last a few seconds and people around me do not even know I have them.So yes over time the seizures change. Medications can also change as time goes by and your body changes. Which is why a person needs to have a visit yearly with their neurologist. Those are the times to bring up changes in the number of seizures or the types of changes in your seizures.
