Please help, Seizures have come back

Sat, 03/14/2015 - 21:32

Hey guys,

I was diagnosed with Absence seizures at the age of 14 back in 2009 after a grand mal, I then had another in 2010, then soon after was put on Depakote ER and didn't have one again. I got off of depakote late in the year of 2012 and have been seizure free until a week ago. I had a grand mal seizure while playing a game on my phone in bed with my girlfriend. Onlookers told me this seizure was different from my last(arms did different motions, mental state was different). I have been studying about 3 hours a day lately for college and also eating very unhealthy so I think my stress and diet choices could have led to the seizure. My neurologist insists I go back on depakote after this last seizure but I really don't want too because it tore my body up so bad before. I was wondering if anyone has had any experiences where they have had seizures based on poor diet or stress? I feel like medication is drastic for just one seizure after 3 years of being off of medication. Please any help or personal experiences are welcome. I just need some answers!

From what I read in your post

From what I read in your post you had a seizure after being off medications and you really don't want to take any mor medications especially depakote. You went seizure free for some time and didn't have any seizures. Then once off medications you went for some time without one. Cool that was a start. however you had a seizurre you attribute to your college nad not eating right..You say the medication tore your body up but didn't leave any details as to how it was tore up. Did you ever think of discussing your issue about depakote with your neurologist? There are many othe medications and some are newer which also control seizures.I went for months without having a seizure and yes I was tired of taking them. So I stopped taking them. I was fine for about a month. No seizures until one night which I didn't have 1 seizure I went into status epilepticus. HAving 40 convulsive seizures an hour. I came to or our of the coma 3 days later. It too a few weeks in the hospital to get medication levels set in my body. After that I went 3 years without any seizure was still on meds and bingo I had one.Doc and I were starting to discuss taking me off meds. If it is th medication you are worried about then talk about other medications he has other partients on but if you had this 1 then you may have others. The next ones will get more frequent and stronger. True stress can be a big factor in many people. I learned how to control stress and other people can do it too. Learn how to use common sense and it will help you a lot. Discuss this issue with your neurologist and if you think it was going to be a one time affair then let him know that you want to go on without meds and if you have another one then you will start meds then. However I would tell you not to drive because if you have a seizure behind the wheel you coudld cause an accident and possiably hurt someone or even kill someone including your self.
