My wife understands my condition but the side effects are effecting our marriage.

True for some but not all. I have used one medication and it didn't work unless it was coupled with another. I was on 3 different meds and did fine. It also depends on the dosages one is on. Some peoples bodies can and do take a higher dosage then others. All of my medications have been set with the highest dosages the company wants used.

Keppra caused me horrible

Keppra caused me horrible depression and mood swings. It's worse with lack of sleep, missing a dose, dehydration, stress, etc. A friend who was on it was suicidal. I finally got off Keppra last year and am on lamotrigine now. (Switching from Keppra to lamotrigine took two years, but that's another story - if you're interested, just ask.)I feel great on lamotrigine, but I have to get my prescription from the same manufacturer every month. If I get it from any other manufacturer - even the primary one (GSK) - I have problems with seizures and moods. It can be hard to find a pharmacy that'll get it from the same manufacturer for you every month. CVS always gets the right one for me. The manufacturer they get mine from for me is Cadista.
