Painful Seizures

Sun, 03/04/2007 - 13:24
Hello all, I'm Kelly. This is my first ever post here. Woohoo! I'm 20 and have had epilepsy for 13 years. I've been diagnosed with Temporal Lobe (Right I think) Epilepsy with Simple Partial seizures. But from what I've read about TLE, it doesn't really apply. That's where the problem is but my seizures are so...different. Worst of it, and most strange, is that when I have 'full-on' seizures (I don't 100% know what kind they are, my doctor doesn't know and doesn't care to try and find out...) it feels like I'm on fire or being electricuted. I hallucinated once, for example, that my arm was reaching up to touch a thick, plugged in cord that had been severed. The pain is immense and I often cry of scream like bloody murder. Occasionally the touch of another human calms me down. During the day I have myoclonic seizures, so I gather. It feels like a wave has washed over me and I'm dazed, although in the back of my head I'm completely aware and awake. My left arm 'dies' leaving me to drop things (like my snowboard on somebody's foot as it happened yesterday), then my mouth and eyes seem to freeze and occasionally it will spread farther. If it's a bad day, I might collapse and begin shaking and yelling, fully conscious the whole time. At night I always have pretty grand seizures, yelling, screaming, breaking things. I hate it. Anyone have any similar experiences? Sorry for the long post, and thanks for reading. -Kelly

Hi Kelly, I think the closest I can come to relating to what you go through are times when I've collapsed and been unable to control what my body decides to do. I can see, I can hear, I can't respond. Annoying as hell, scary too on occasion. If your doctor is unwilling to explain or to search farther, perhaps it's time to search for a new doctor? Best of luck in your quest.
