Ontario members without a license

Mon, 10/02/2006 - 10:06
If you have ever had your license revoked in Ontario, do you know if it is possible to convince the MTO to let you keep that little piece of plastic for ID purposes? I've been on hold for 16 minutes and counting now, trying to get an answer to this question. I'm on hold with the MTO's Medical Review line. I tried the regular number, but they transferred me here. :/ Stupid MTO. >:( Worse than a Monday morning calculus class!

In Ontario, I was told really once your license is suspended if the expiry date is valid, it can be valid ID for some things, but really it is not. I still have my expired license, but really it isn't valid ID. Back yourself up in one of the following ways: A) Age of Majority Card - pick up the form for that at an LCBO B) Passport C) Photo Health Card - Not ID to travel, but can be legit for somethings C) Social Insurance Card - if you accompany this with expired license + credit card it will work to get things like a movie membership, etc. Hope that helps. ~ EC

I called the MTO (total hold

I called the MTO (total hold time 35 minutes) and they said I could hold onto the piece of plastic. The date is valid until 2009 (I just renewed it two weeks ago, even though I don't drive). The guy I spoke with said that it will in no way affect my petition to have the license reinstated when I go for that once my seizures are under control. [mini-rant] I need to get a new passport next year anyway. The US is being a jerk about Canadians visiting. A license and your birth certificate aren't enough anymore. [insert eyeroll] Now you need a passport. What do you need to get a passport? You license and birth certificate. [/end rant]

To get a passport stop by a Shopper's Drug Mart with a postal outlet part. They have the applications at the back of the store. There's an application form you have to fill out. Then, you have to go to black's photography & get a set of passport photos. Then, you take the form to a qualifying person who has known you 2 yrs + (banker, lawyer, doctor) There's a part they fill out & then they sign the back of 1 of the 2 pictures along with photocopies of the ID you use (I photocopied my birth certificate) Then you mail it all in & pay a fee - dunno what that is. Pick up the application from a postal outlet, that's step 1. I gotta do the same thing soon as well. ~ Erin
