New.. would love some information

Hi all New to this forum and epilepsy and would like to hear your thoughts. I had my first seizure one year ago when I was 27. I was on antibiotics at the time so the doctors thought that was the cause and refused to test for epilepsy (or any other cause really) I have to say it was the scariest moment of my life. I knew something bad was going to happen but didn't know what. I woke up in the middle of the night and as fair as I remember I had a uti at the time. I remember going into my parents room and just saying help me and then it was black. The medication I was on was for a condition called bv (which was never 100% definite I even had in the first place) I woke up from the seizure screaming and I mean screaming, with this intense fear of something unknown. My mum and dad were over me and my hands were rigid but stuck outright, not curled in. I also vomited after I regained consciousness. I did not lose control of urine this time. I couldn't speak well and was extremely confused. I was taken to hospital were they just put it down to the medication flagyl I think was called. A year passed, uneventful. I experienced my second one just a month ago nearly a year to the day. I felt extreme nausea and ringing in my ears. I had gotten my period that same morning. All I remember was hunching over the toilet bowl and the next thing I knew I was in mid movement waking up and soaking wet (I had lost control of urine) it was so strange I was already reaching for the door of the bathroom before I was fully aware. My partner came running out and all I could manage to say was help me help me over and over. I was living in canada but had to come home to ireland for tests as not covered there. I felt completely weird for the next three weeks. Spacey, tired, night jumps where I would feel like I was falling and the intense fear I was going to have a seizure in public. My ct and mri came back normal but my eeg came back abnormal saying they couldn't say for definite it was epilepsy but that it was Abnormal And It Was Mainly On The Left Side I think. They put me on keppra to hopefully build me up to 1000mg a day. I feel ok so far, tired but not the same tired I had before The medication. I got my periods the day before I started the meds and before I even knew I had my periods I had that feeling like the time of my first seizure like something was going to happen. My fingers just went blue and I started shaking (don't know is this anxiety?) But did not pass out. Sorry for long and rambley post I'm just so scared that I don't have epilepsy and that taking these meds is pointless as they are just lumping me into a category (they wanted to put me in meds before I had even gotten my mri or eeg done) I feel like I have some other underlying condition that's not being found or something. Although I do feel better so is it dangerous to be put on anti epileptic drugs if you turn out not to be epileptic? (Just out of curiosity) Thank you so much for all your time

Lou,Seizures that coincide

Lou,Seizures that coincide with your period are called Catamenial Seizures. You should probably stay on the Keppra till your Neurologist tells you to stop it. People have come into more trouble adjusting their medications to fit their own needs without consulting their Neurologist. The main thing you need to do is to consult your Neurologist to find out the exact name for your type of seizure. This might require a few more scans but it does sound like you have epilepsy. The danger from the medication is minimal should you not have epilepsy.

A pweson can have a seizure

A pweson can have a seizure caused from a reaction to a medication. If taken to the ER then they would send you home because of that and other things that can cause 1 seizure. You landed in th ER again because of a seizure. Which means you had 2 seizures. All it takes to diagnose epilepsy is 2 seizures which you had had.  My ct and mri came back normal but my eeg came back abnormal  CT scans and the  MRI are tests that can show the brain along with anything on it or a growth deformation. SO the CT and MRI showed nothing abnormal. Now the EEG shows the electrical output comming from the brain. If it came back normal then things would be fine. If it came back abnormal then they saw spikes and/or waves that weren't supposed to show up. Now all a seizure is "is an electrical impulse going off in the brain causing a chain reaction"  They put me on keppra to hopefully build me up to 1000mg a day If you think they are wrong you might go to women with epilepsy and you would find many posts about women who have seizures right before, after or during their time of month. A hormonial change can cause an imballance. I hope this helps Joe
