Moment before my first Tonic Clonic seizure
Mon, 05/22/2006 - 05:47I posted a long thread on Friday - which explained the whole background behing my seizure - but it's probably a bit long winded.
So I thought I'd cut to the chase and tell about what I remember just before my seizure - simply to find out if anyone else thought it was familiar to them.
I was dozing in my bed in the early morning. I was spatially aware of my surroundings - my eyes were closed and everything was black. Then a very bright ball of light appeared at my feet and travelled up the length of my body (about a meter in front of me). It seemed to be whispering - although I couldn't hear anything specific - it was whispering bad things - it was menacing.
It went past my face and beyond my head. After it got about a metre or two beyond my head it slowed and stopped then began travelling towards the top of my head. It grew in size and speed - brightness - and the sound got louder and louder. It was terrifying. The anxiety I experienced was pure panic. It all became unbearable - like a horrifying climax of light - sound and intense feeling. I remember not being able to bear it anymore and I think I was shocked out of my bed. Then I remember nothing until I awoke on the floor.
I was unaware that I had had a fit and was very confused afterwards (i think i was also concussed - I cut my head and needed 2 stitches and also bit my tongue).
I'd be grateful to hear if this experince is unusual or if others have had similar experiences.

I have always had nocturnal seizures at the moment upon dozing off or at some point in the night. I have captured an aura right at the dozing off point. It is hard to describe, but with a history of panic attacks, I get confused over if it is an aura or the panic attack from hell! In the 70's while a teenager, I had them, but did not know it. They are almost too strange to put into words. I am in another demension, and removed from reality, everything looks and sounds strange. Even after all these years, it is hard to put into words. I have referred to them as being in a twilight zone.

Have you already seen the thread entitled "How Exactly Do Auras Feel"? There are some vivid descriptions of some very similar experiences to yours. I can only describe some events leading up to my simple/complex partials, as I do not (unfortunately) get auras preceding tonic-clonic sz's. Like I said I believe there is a post almost exactly like yours featuring a ball of energy. I have some weird visions during my complex partials, but once I'm in the middle anything that occurs is forgotten as soon as I re-acclimate myself to my surroundings. I know my auras consist of an odor, sweating, a clenching or tightning of my stomach muscles, and then once my extremities begin to go numb everything that follows is lost forever once it's over. I hope this helps, even a little, Susan
