Minimal aura/different sense of awareness

Thu, 07/06/2017 - 01:27
So I've been getting grand mal seizures the last several years, (usually every few months), and the aura that I get immediately before it happens is unmistakable. It is very disorienting and strong, and difficult to overcome. On the other hand, I get into these altered states of consciousness/awareness, where things don't seem as clear as when I feel 100%, but I can still function perfectly fine, and seizures never happen immediately after I begin to feel like this. It is hard to explain, but it's almost like a small step towards what an aura right before a seizure feels like, except it comes and goes. One minute I'll be feeling perfectly normal, but the next, I'll realize that my mind is ever so slightly altered, or tweaked. I was wondering if anyone else experiences something like this, or has any idea about it. These states usually seem to happen more frequently when I am not as well rested. Thanks

I have grand mal and aura seizures, before the deja vu i get a distinct smell.  I can,t tell you what the smell is, I just know it when i smell it.  Again like deja vu, only more intense. Look them up online, if that is what you are experiencing, talk to your neurologist.

Ive had TLE since i was 8, medicated for 12 years, in control for 10 years. Now i feel it coming back, seizures dont feel the same i think they're less intense, but i might just be used to it.The aura for me is indeed very particular, i do too smell/taste something, it is a bit like metal/copper taste sometimes it tingles on top of my mouth,a feeling of being unease starts, sometimes it feels like everything around me has become softer, i dont know how to explain, its not only the sense of touch, its the smell, even the focus on my vision just gets softer, not really blurred just like flat and smooth.I am not sure if it always precedes a seizure, sometimes i just get migraine but I suspect im getting absence seizures, not sure because i live alone and work from home so nobody is really watching me.This state of altered senses/conciousness sometimes doesnt go away for several hours sometimes days will go by with intermittent ups and downs but for me its quite manageable.I does present itself if i have been straining my body, like drinking/drugs/exercise/not getting enough rest. but thats just normal, we should know our boundaries and when to cross them.
