Male taking Depakote having kids with Wife

Tue, 08/15/2017 - 12:19
Hi All, I am a 31 year old male. Was diagnosed with epilepsy when I was 14. I have had roughly 5 seizures, so it is fairly mild and controlled with 500mg of Depakote a day. My wife (perfectly healthy) and I would like to start trying to have kids, however I have done some research online to see if there are any potential risks. One of the things I am coming across is that Valproic Acid (Depakote) can potentially mutate sperm/diminish fertility etc. I was curious to elicit the anyone's feedback here and see if anyone had any insight into this issue - potential birth defects etc. Thank you so much for any insight.

Tomsc The person you need to discuss thus issue with is your neurologist. I had a talk with mine in a phone call and we changed my meds.
