Lupron/Hysterectomy Questions

Tue, 05/30/2006 - 11:54
Hey. I'm not sure if I have already asked about this or not, (you all know how memory problems are). I think I also posted this on the womens forum. I have tonic clonic seizures normally at night, but I have had some awake. I have the aura's but usually not a seizure (then). I have been unable to drive since February (I'm 28). I have ,more so than not, my seizures under control EXCEPT during the days before my period. I have at least 2 or 3 each month at this time. At this rate I will never be able to drive again, and it is affecting me so much. I guess its having to depend on someone all the time. My gyno suggested 2 months of Lupron shots to see if my seizures would stop while my ovaries are shut down. If they improve a hysrerectomy ia an option. I'm just scared. Don't know what to do. My husband is scared for me to take these shots. Anybody have any suggestions?

Hi Wendy, I am new here to the site. I have had Epilepsy since I was 6 years old. Anyway, I have also had Endometriosis and took Lupron shots after having a Laporoscopy (exploratory surgery in my abdomen where they found many ovarian cysts and Endometriosis). I wanted to be able to have children and knew that the Endo could cause me to become infertile, so I took my doctor's advice and took the Lupron shots. I took them for 6 months and it was kind of like my body thought it was going through menopause. My periods stopped during that time. My Lupron shots didn't have anything to do with my Epliepsy, but I wanted to share with you that I did take them. They worked for me and my problem. I have two healthy children! So, it might be worth a try for you to do it and see if it helps your seizures. I would really do some research before deciding to have a hystorectomy, though. If you want to keep from having periods, you don't have to have a hyst. My sister-in-law took birth control pills for years without taking the inactive week of the pills. That will keep you from having periods and is completely safe. You could ask about that option. Hope this helps.
