a little insight please

I want to start this post by saying that I have not been diagnosed with epilepsy and I have never be treated or thought to have epilepsy in the past. However, about two months ago I think I may have had some kind of seizure while asleep. My wife tried to wake me up and I was somewhat aware of what was happening, but I couldn't control it. Then about a week ago, my wife woke me up in a panic. She said that I had been shaking violently in bed, went rigid and then finally limp and she was having trouble waking me up. I have absolutely no memory of this, but my wife was shaken by this. Also, when I was very young, I can remember the bed shaking violently several times. I used to think it was a ghost in the room. My wife thinks that the bed shaking could have maybe been me shaking. I have an adjustment with my GP on March 9th regarding an unrelated condition and I have been waiting until then to tell the doctor about these episodes which appear right now to only happen at night. My questions are, 1) can epilepsy be confused with a shaking bed during childhood? 2) would a sleep study have turned up anything to point to epilepsy? I have been diagnosed with mild sleep apnea. 3) should I be more concerned about this? Is it something that should be discussed with my GP before the 9th? 5 more days until the 9th. Thanks for any information you may have on this!

As for sleep studies To save time let the GP know about you wanting to discuss this issue with him. He can refer you to a neurologist. One that sepcializes in epilepsy and that neurologist can listen to your episodes and determine more. the tests the neurologist will want done are an EEG and a MRI. The EEG is a brain wave test showing the electrical output comming from oyur brain. The MRI will sho th brain. 1) can epilepsy be confused with a shaking bed during childhood? 2) would a sleep study have turned up anything to point to epilepsy? Absence seizures AKA petite mal or focal seizures can look like the person is dady dreaming. I had been written up for day dreaming in class when in reality those day dreams were seizures.  A person can have a twitch in a muscle and not really think about when that twitch could be a seizure. Not all seizures look like a grand mal seizure. Not all seizures are convulsive. I hope this helps and you get the assistance you need
