Keppra/Lamictal and tia symptoms

Fri, 08/04/2017 - 19:14
Just curious if anyone else has had symptoms of a stroke when they were over medicated on these two meds. I am currently taking 3000 mg of keppra and 500 mg of lamicatal. I had an episode of being unsteady and having to lean on the wall on my right side going down the steps and trouble walking.I had bad headache. I went home when I wasn't feeling well. But, tried to go in a couple of hours later. I had difficulties speaking words and mixing them up, trouble walking, comprehending or understanding how to do something, short term memory, and identifying objects on paper. It lasted about 6 hours and I was hospitalized. All the tests came out normal. My EEG also came out normal with no seizure activity (first time in years). My Lamictal level came back at 21. I have to get the kappra level done on the 10th. My symptoms have pretty much gone away. Although, I still have headache and pressure on my left side of my head including my ear, which i didn't have before. I have missing parts of recent events and got day activities messed up. They put it down that i had a tia. But, no one seemed to think it quite fit .From what I read I had many of the symptoms. Can either of these be connected to having a tia/stroke.

I would really look again at

I would really look again at lamotrigine. my daughter has issues with balance/vertigo/dizziness and nausea when she takes too much lamotrigine at once, switching her dosing from twice a day to three times a day (same daily total which is a moderate amount) stopped the problem. if she could take a pill whole, could have switched her to extended release. excerpt follows from a page on test of lamotrigine levels http://www.mayomedicallaboratories.com/test-catalog/Clinical+and+Interpretive/80999Interpretation The serum concentration should be interpreted in the context of the patient's clinical response and may provide useful information in patients showing poor response (noncompliance?) or adverse effects, particularly when lamotrigine is co-administered with other anticonvulsant drugs. While most patients show response to the drug when the trough concentration is in the range of 2.5 to 15.0 mcg/mL, and show signs of toxicity when the peak serum concentration is >20 mcg/mL, some patients can tolerate peak concentrations as high as 70 mcg/mL.

It could be medications. But

It could be medications. But if you researched TIA you would find out that everything you posted and asked about lands in the TIA. They are also called mini strokes. If it was TIA or mini stroke then you need to discuss this with all of your doctors. There are tests that can be done that can help you. For many people their TIA is a sign that they can have a stroke. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transient_ischemic_attackThat site will tell you more about TIA and yes many of the individual signs are medication or seizure related. Understand too that TIA also comes from the brain and blood flow
