inquiry about starting PT

Tue, 11/28/2006 - 20:12
I'm planning on moving forward with PT due to a major back injury. What I'd like to know is there anyone here who's been through a similar situation and what type of tips can you give me? I'm doing ok so far with the seizes - knock on wood. Last one I had was on the 20th but neither here nor there at this point. I know in any case I need to get started on fixing a back issue so I can start moving again and fix the back issue and build up the energy again. One of the things that has been discussed awhile ago was that in doing so it will help loosing weight which will make things easier on me all the way around; both back pressure and medicine can drop in dosage as well - that's always a good thing. The place that I'm looking at has personal trainers who are skilled at doing things of this nature so I'd intended on talking to one of them and working with someone who can set me up with some sort of plan we can work with and I can move slowly on so there is no problem with over exertion. As I said, I'm curious to know if there's anyone here who has gone through something similar. If there's any thoughts on the situation I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks everyone! Sue

Hi Sue - I wish I could offer you some tips and advice, but I am getting ready to start the same process this month. I had surgery on my back in October, and as soon as they let me get rid of the back brace, they are going to start me on PT. The only thing I am worried about is strenuous excercise that could cause me to hyperventilate. Hyperventilating is a seizure trigger for me. Make sure the trainers that you work with know about your seizures, and what to do if one happens. Good luck to you !
