I was wondering....

Fri, 10/23/2015 - 19:47

Short version:

To sum it up I was wondering if they can still test you for epilepsy when your already on a anti seizure drug like Lamictal for Bi polar?

Why I ask (a ad Long):

I"m somewhat new to epilepsy as I found my 3 year old son has atypical absence seizure's however this question isn't about im it's about me. In 2013 I started getting tremors (all over) with jaw clenching and sometimes end up biting my tongue on and off (however I am conscious) fast forward to a few months ago.

I get alot of Deja vu and vertigo and my hands sweat I also get the feeling of warm water running down my head (but it's not) and sometimes my ears will feel full and ten I get a distorted tinnitus? (wearied beeping sound from fans and such that stop when off) I become very sensitive to flashes and brightness and sound. I would costantly get this feeling afterwards of tightness in my extremities and sometime tongue numbness and I would have to lay there and lock up on and off stretching un-stretching wit horrible internal tremor (that sometimes would come to outwards tremor tat can last up to a hour) During this I am awake though I don't remember everything but I remember most and my emotions become very scattered to intense crying that passes afterwards.

Fast forward to now: So I already been seeing a psych for anxiety and my extreme rapid mood changes.(been and still am on Valium for years) I was First put on Trileptal and OMG for the first time in months no wet head hardly any wet hands not locking or anything! However I did get extreme back pain on it and head pain and had to switch. So oddly a new symptom came with the Trileptal I began staring off though I could here what people were saying (sometimes fade in and out) I will fiddle with my clothes adjust my posture and no matter how much I try and talk or look at the person I would drift. I noticed before this my dizziness would get worse I will get a strong salt or blood taste more vertigo and bad derealization and some nausea. After it passes (feels like along time but according to my therapist who witnessed it) said it wasn't long (she didn't know what to make of it) I swore I stood up afterwards and asked for help, but she said all I did was cry afterwards. I got really tired afterwards and still nausea took a bit to calm down I also learned that my tounge pain/ulcer I been getting is mild grinding on my tounge I get when I get those weird feelings.

Was now switched to Lamictal, So far same relief but only one mild episode as above EXCEPT the derealization is bad and I get the deja vus and vertigo but no nausea not much salt or blood taste except for the one day I had a mild similar episode (I'm on a low does and being gradually raised)

The stare offs while conscious has me freaked out especially when I cry afterward (sometimes I don't feel like crying I jus do) I was wondering if maybe I had a mild form of epilepsy going on that was being bought out by my reckless lifestyle that led me to a psychiatrist inwhich my son inherited from me?

I was suppose to see a neurologist but i don't know if he can do a test if I'm on Lamictal and Valium wouldn't it inter fear wit the results?

Does this sound like a form of epilepsy because I was told it's not a medication side effect? And when I tried to look it up It led me to seizures :/

Thankyou to anyone who took the time to read this and offors ther opion or a answer to the question of medication interfearance!

good to know they can lower the meds if needed.  I know there not 100% My son's was very noticeable though and couldn't be missed where as me idk it could be completely unrelated either way if it ends up another nervosa disorder I have to see a nureo in general. When I see him I'll ltell I'm all that's been happening and see what he thinks it could be and what test to do.
