I Have Had It!

Tue, 09/05/2006 - 14:09
Maybe I am just having a bad day, or maybe - just maybe, I have finally reached my breaking point where I just don't even feel like wasting my time, nor my money any longer. I left my last Neurologist due to his lack of the basic common sense, not to mention, he had no grasp on how to run his office nor did his assistant. Now, I understand people are busy, but when I call every single day for two weeks, I expect a call back, not for you to finally pick up and say "Oops, I remember your message and forgot to call you back!" Oops isn't cutting it, I am no longer patient nor am I understanding. I am putting at least 300 dollars in your pocket every single visit, I expect a call back when I ask for one. So, lets fast forward. I go to a new Neurologist and I say SPECIFICALLY why I am coming there, I am comforted by her assistant saying they are a small non-busy office. I go last Tuesday and need to have an MRI, EEG, blahblah to check for changes. So I get my MRI Thursday and EEG Friday, both results were sent on FRIDAY. The assistant calls me today and says, "You were pre certified for your MRI so you can get it done anytime this week." I say, "You should have been sent my results Friday since I had it done -last week-. So I ask for my results, she said she will call me "right back". It has been 4 hours. I also requested a refill on my AEDs last week, and I am yet to have them. So I have missed a dose already, they say refills take 24 hours max - it has been a week now. I am just over this crap. It has been 8 months since I have worked, and I am yet to get a real diagnosis or even a part-time work release. I suppose this genius thinks I have a money tree in my back yard. It should be great next week whem my insurance is cut off. I don't think I will go back, I also won't waste my time on another Neurologist. This is no longer worth the potential outcome, I see no outcome, I see more time and money wasted and I have zero faith in any doctor out there to actually get something taken care of. People don't do this because they love it, they do it for the money. And I'm not supporting them anymore.

All I can say Ellie is wow. You have gone through a lot. I would be ready to throw my hands up in the air and say forget it too, but that wouldn't be a very good thing. Where do you live? I would see if there was an (Epitologist) around your area anywheres. This is a very smart doctor who specializes in Epilepsy alone. They have 3yrs over a regular Neurologist and mine is a sweet heart. She has done anything in her power to help me, after I told her about my last neurologist. I saw her in April sometime and since then she has had me redo my MRI and EEG and has had me go for an ambulatory EEG, Cat-scan and other test. She found out I am a great candidate for Right Temporal Lobectomy. I am scheduled for the operation on October 12th. I would call the hospital and see who they recommend and let them know you are tired of the runaround you have been getting from your past doctors. They may also feel your pain and hardships with the others and try to help you in any way they can. I sure hope things get much better for you really fast. I hate to hear the sadness that comes out of the words I read on here, and by what I heard when you typed this was a truely discouraged person who I wish I could have reached out to and have given a hug to. Hope all gets well soon. (hugzzzzzzz) Cathy

I am in Southern California (Orange County). My Neurologist said if she can't "figure it out" (translation: when she runs out of pills to give me) she's going to send me to an Epileptologist due to the inability to control my seizures. This is literally ruining my life and taking everything away from me, I really don't know what else to do. I can't afford to keep going through this.

Ellie This is the time that you INSIST on seeing an epileptologist. You are HIRING her and should not hesitate to request another doctor. Good luck with this and don't give up until you are satisfied with your doctor and the care he/she provides.. stef
