Feel like seizures are imminent

Sun, 04/09/2017 - 12:24
I have TLE, meds include Keppra 3000 a day and Lamictal 400 a day. I have a variety of different seizures, clonic that generalize and don't stop without ativan, abensence, auras. Anyway, I often have the feeling that a seizure could happen at any moment. As if they are just under the surface ready to break out. I will have a slight jerk in a leg muscle, or a shoulder and I get so afraid I will have a seizure. As if the medicine is barely containing them. It is a fearful place to be. Anyone else feel this way? I do have an appointment with my neurologist next month, so I will be talking about this with him.

Well I do know about Ativan

Well I do know about Ativan or lorazepam since I use it now and then. If it is a small dose then it is a rescue medication which keeps the seizure from clustering. Meaning going into back to back seizures, Yes that can happen. So when you have your next visit then ask questions. I had X number of seizures should the dosage be changes?? Should me change the medications? Is there a procedure that can help control my seizures better? I always asked questions and truthfully answered Docs questions. That is how I got the number of my seizures down. It is also how we got the time in those seizures down to a few seconds rather then 5-8 minutes. As for your different types of seizures I have had almost every type listed. My diagnosis was before they specialized. Focal motor epilepsy  and petite and grand mal epilepsy was my diagnosis. So I can have any of the partial seizures listed and generalized too but the only ones I have are generally a focal seizure that starts in my right hand. It feels weird or numb for a couple of seconds. I take my lorazepam because they have clustered on me. back to back and that means 4=8 seizures in a 10-15 minute time.If you constantly think you might have a seizure at any moment then you are letting your epilepsy control you. Yes you can have one. But you can go long period of time without one. So which do you want to do? Worry about MAYBE having one? Which causes stress which is a trigger. Or go about you daily life with your family and friend and do what you need to IF you have one? You see I have only been having seizures for 50+ years. I do not think about the seizure until I have one. I have more things to do then thinking about seizures or if I might have one.Do ask your questions and do ask the neurologist about your thinking about you having a seizure

Thank you for your reply. I

Thank you for your reply. I think that I didn't make myself very clear, sorry. I am living my life and enjoying family and friends. I am not afraid of epilepsy,  this is just a new feeling. I had brain surgery, tumors, 4 years ago. Tumors discovered after a seizure,  and then seizures continued. I will ask my neurologist at my appointment in a few weeks. Thank you again.

Yes! And you should TRUST your  instinct. Tell your neurologist and report your sysmtomps and feelings. My son was off meds at the drs recommendation for a while. He was fine for many weeks and months until I saw the symptoms crawling back in slowly but surely. A little tic here, a little twitch there, fidgeting here and there, spacing out on ocassion, poor school performance, a myoclonus  etc. I knew it was just a matter of time,so I called the dr and he got back on meds. No need to wait u til the worse happens imo. Trust your senses!
