Driver's License

I had brain surgery in '96 due to a lesion caused by a high temperature. I have been seizure free for 10 years and off of the medication. Last year I was put on Depakote for depression, soon after took myself off too quickly and had a seizure March of last year. I was put back on seizure medication and had another one in November. The state law is the loss of license for 1 year seizure free before driving again. I feel that my case is very different. I have read and been told by doctors that coming off of Depakote too quickly can cause anyone to have a seizure. Do I write a letter to the DMV, get a lawyer, see a different neurologist? Is any neurologist going to work with me without having my license taken??? I did read two positive stories of similar cases. 32chris and mightymonkey, I'd like to hear from you anyone else who can help. Thank you K

So, if you " have read and been told by doctors that coming off of Depakote too quickly can cause anyone to have a seizure" then why did you have seizures... not just once but twice..one when nixing AEds and one when adding them? Sorry, but for the sake of others, the streets would be safer if you stayed away from driving to be sure that you have no more seizures. One would think you'd want to be sure of that also..if only to avoid the 'possibility' of killing someone if you had a seizure driving. Gads.. it's only one year!! Many ,for varying reasons, never get to drive! I didn't ever drive until I was controlled 100%; which I lost when I stopped being seizure free & had a nice accident totalling my car. Ihe psychological trauma I went though after realizing I could have killed somone in that car accident, I wouldn't wish on anyone. IMO to "help you" would be to urge you to stay off the road!
